Kia is a South Korean automobile manufacturer with headquarters in Yangjae-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul, South Korea. Its president is Chung Eui-sun. On October 20, 2006, Kia Motors America opened its first U.S. assembly plant in West Point, Georgia with an initial cost of more than one billion dollars.
The company, part of Hyundai Group, has produced successful models for Ford. The name "Kia" derives from a combination of the character or Hanja for Korean word ki, meaning "rise" or "exit" and the letter 'a' of Asia. Therefore, the name of the oldest automobile manufacturer in South Korea would mean "he who comes from Asia." The origin of the brand back to the founding in 1944 of an industrial conglomerate that manufactured, among other things, engines and commercial vehicles under the brand name "Asia".
